2014 World Cup Prizm

The 2014 World Cup prizm set was the first prizm soccer set released by Panini. This set contains the first prizm cards of many legendary players. Some notable players in this set are: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Andrea Pirlo, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Iker Casillas, Wayne Rooney, Arjen Robben, Manuel Neuer, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Paul Pogba, just to name a few. This set is important because it combines the iconic prizm set, which was popularized by basketball, with soccer. Before this set, soccer cards were predominantly made by European brands, and Panini making a prizm set made them more desirable for the American demographic. With the popularity of soccer cards rising, it is possible that this set could become comparable to 2012 prizm basketball, which was its inaugural year. Some parallels included in this set are: red white and blue, blue and red, yellow and red, silver, blue #/199, red #/149, purple #/99, green crystal #/25, gold #/25, gold power #/5, black 1/1. 3 Ways that The Last Dance has impacted the sports card hobby

Over the past 5 weeks ESPN has partnered with Netflix to create a 10 hour docuseries called The Last Dance  which chronicles the roller coaster events of the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls as it had never been seen before.  Using never before seen footage, the viewer gets a glimpse into the locker room, and behind the scenes during the team's final championship run. The docuseries had an impact on the sports card hobby, these are three of the ways on how. 1. It sparked a sense of nostalgia.   For those of a certain age group ( those who watched basketball in the 80s and 90s) it created a sense of nostalgia. This ranges from remembering the fixation that the sports world had on Michael Jordan to seeing an interview with their favourite player and seeing clips of their favourite player play. With the extensive group of different interviewees, chronicling different moments in time throughout the Bulls' run, it brought people back to when they used to watch that player play, and the...

2017 Allen and Ginter

I just wanted to start off this post by saying that I'm sorry for not posting as regularly as I should be. I will try to do more posts in the near future. A couple of weeks ago, Topps released its 2017 collection of Allen and Ginter baseball cards. For those who don't know what Allen and Ginter is, it is a throwback set that highlights great people and accomplishments, not just baseball players. Each Hobby box contains 24 packs of 8 cards totalling 192 cards in each box. Each Hobby box contains 3 relic cards, autograph cards or rip cards. Rip cards are cards that have a pull tab, and if you rip them there is a mini card inside. There is also such thing as a double rip card where there is mini card inside of a mini card ( I hope that this makes sense). This year Allen and Ginter has a variety of relics and autographs. Some of which include, but are not limited to: Baseball World Classic relics  Autograph Relic booklets  Dual autograph booklets  Red ink autograph para...
